Affordability is another important part of the discussion. Premium increases have led some policyholders to reduce sums insured or cancel benefits, but doing so without understanding the trade-off can create underinsurance. Before making changes, households can estimate the amount of cover needed, compare it with existing super and personal policies, and consider what would happen if income stopped, debts remained, or care costs arose unexpectedly.

This story also extends the broader debate about how Australians are connected with suitable cover. Stronger safeguards against poor conduct are important, but access matters too.
